This Hanukkah, one of the finest klezmer bands in the country, Michael Winograd & The Honorable Mentshn, pack up their clarinets and accordions and snare drums and hit the road for a barnstorming tour of East Coast venues. From the most heart-wrenching doinas (slow melodic laments) to explosive freylekhs (upbeat dance tunes) no klezmer band in America compares to this group. Michael leads the band on clarinet and plays with unmatched virtuosity.
Don’t believe us? Ask Vulfpeck, who have brought him onstage at Madison Square Garden. Oh, and on this tour, he is joined by Josh Dolgin, aka Socalled, a master musical experimenter who will front this band on vocals, keys, and all-around musical insanity.
We give this entire tour a big thumbs-up, but we are especially proud of the shows we are co-producing in Richmond on December 6 at the Reveler and the dance on December 8 in Baltimore at Mobtown Ballroom. That one includes Judy Sweet teaching us Yiddish-style dances. So shine up those menorahs and get ready to spin like a dreidel. Hanukkah comes early this year. Buy yourself a gift and come out to some exceptional music.
- December 6th 4pm – Reveler Experience, Richmond, VA – cosponsored by Yiddish RVA
- December 8th 6pm- Mobtown Ballroom, Baltimore, MD – In partnership with the Baltimorim and Bolton Street Synagogue
