Five Years of CCV at the Clifden Arts Festival

Three men stand on stage in front of a black curtain. The one on the left holds a mandolin, the one in the middle a fiddle, and the one on the right, a guitar.

CCV returned to the beautiful town of Clifden, nestled in Ireland’s stunning Connemara region, for another unforgettable year at the Clifden Arts Festival! This year marked our fifth year bringing unique musical programming to the festival, and we celebrated the occasion in true bluegrass style.

Joining us for the festivities were our good friends and exceptional musicians Danny Knicely, Jared Pool, and Bryan McDowell, who brought their talents, energy, and masterfully played traditional bluegrass to audiences throughout the community.

The group played to a standing-room-only crowd at the Station House Theatre and shared their music with students of all ages at both local community schools. But the music didn’t stop when the formal performances ended! As always, some of the most memorable moments happened after hours, when the musicians joined local players for late-night jams in Clifden’s lively pubs.

This year brought some especially memorable musical encounters, including a chance to jam with legendary Irish button accordionist Jackie Daly and British country troubadour Hank Wangford. These spontaneous gatherings are part of what makes the Clifden Arts Festival so special: a celebration of music, community, and the connections that happen when musicians come together.

And, of course, no visit to Clifden would be complete without its signature hospitality. We are deeply grateful to festival organizers Brendan Flynn, Des Lally, Sean Mullkerin, Johanne Webb, James, Hannah, and all the wonderful folks at the Station House for making us feel so welcome once again. A special thanks goes to Keith O’Connor for his always-impeccable sound engineering. We’re also grateful to everyone at Connemara Community Radio for once again inviting us to join them on air.

Five years in, our connection with Clifden continues to grow, and we couldn’t be more thankful for the friendships, musical discoveries, and warm welcomes that keep bringing us back.

Next year is going to be a big one! The Clifden Arts Festival will celebrate its 50th anniversary, and CCV can’t wait to be part of the festivities. Who will we bring along for the occasion?

Stay tuned — there’s more music to come!
