What is a crankie you might ask? A crankie is a scroll that provides the visual narration to a story or song. Versions of the crankie have been used for centuries, and their most recent iteration is directly linked to moving panoramas popular in the 19th century. In recent years, artists have begun to embrace the intimacy of the format, creating multi-layered immersive experiences for audiences.
CCV has partnered with Baltimore’s Creative Alliance to curate and produce the beloved 2023 Baltimore Crankie Fest. This much anticipated event is only a month away, January 6 through 8th, 2023, and will bring in artists from Baltimore and beyond, connecting with ballardy traditions, community storytelling and various performance mediums for a magical weekend of fireside magic.
