Visiting from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Grupo Monobloco is a Carnival bloco (street drum ensemble) beloved in their native country. Monobloco visited the D.C. area on June 29th with support from EduCarte, a Maryland-based nonprofit which offers music, dance, and arts programming that centers around encounters of African, Latin, indigenous, and European cultures in the Americas.
CCV partnered with EduCarte to offer a public percussion workshop with MonoBloco where participants received hands-on instruction and were invited to perform the following day with the group during their standing room only performance in historic Glen Echo Park’s Spanish Ballroom.
