From April 4–6, Khayal living legend Ustad Naseeruddin Saami, his sons, and their student Zeb Bangash embarked on a sold-out, three-city tour, captivating audiences in Queens, NY, Vienna, VA, and Chicago, IL with support through the Center for Cultural Vibrancy.
Each evening began with Zeb Bangash making her Khayal debut. For more than 20 mesmerizing minutes, she explored vocal expression, supported by harmonium and tabla, holding the audience in quiet awe. She then had the honor of introducing her Ustad, Naseeruddin Saami, and his sons, who delivered a masterclass in Khayal.
Their set was slow and meditative, inviting listeners to open their hearts and minds—to receive a voice refined by both grace and the wisdom of age.
After a brief intermission, the Saami Brothers returned with a set of qawwali infused with Khayal. The performance was ecstatic and powerful, lifting audiences to their feet. The connection between stage and seats was electric, with palpable love flowing in both directions.
